Why are chains so powerful? Because of what
God does for
Christians
in prison. Here's a story out of
Nepal, told by Tirtha Thapa, general
secretary for the National Churches Fellowship, about the time he
visited some Christians in chains.
"As I entered, the light was
dim and it was difficult to see. I could make out shapes in one corner
of the cell, huddled together against the cold, on the bare concrete
floor. As my eyes adjusted, the battered faces of the men came into
focus. They were bound together with wire that pierced their hands and
wound around their limbs, causing intense pain. They were miserable
looking creatures. I had met them before, on a previous visit, but in
their present condition I didn't recognize them. But they recognized me.
"Jaya mashi!" they shouted. "Victory of the Messiah!... Don't worry,
we're fine, singing the song of the Lord. Tell our brothers and sisters
we're happy here in police custody."
